An access log is a text file which contains a thorough report on all the files accessed by your Internet site visitors. All of the files which were requested in one way or another shall be included, so when you have a PHP script app and a website visitor opens only the home page, for instance, you might find a lot of files in the log. The reason is that there are things on the home page that are embedded - parts of other web pages, pictures, and so on. All these files shall be listed in the access log, so that you can get a detailed picture of the way your website performs. The info is in plain text format, so the logs are often described as "raw data" too. An access log shows the name of every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, in addition to the user’s IP address, web browser and OS. More info, like the referrer website, is oftentimes provided too. A log file may be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats created by your server.

Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting

Our custom Hepsia CP features a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. As you sign in to your shared hosting account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains which you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to click on a button which will be available next to every single domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you'll see a download link together with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your personal computer and view it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you no longer require one, you could stop it with just a mouse click from the same section of the CP. You shall still have the ability to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it shall not take more than several clicks to activate the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature could be enabled via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and this may be done separately for each domain or subdomain that you have within your account. Whenever you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each of them. One click will trigger the log generation and another one shall deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great ease. A Download link in the same section will enable you to save the gathered content as a text file, that you can then use on your notebook or computer. Even if the logs are deactivated, you shall still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
